She chose a place near the back. She unbuttoned her coat. The yellow center of her pendant appeared within its open star, resting against her dark shirt.

The musicians began, stopped, and began four bars earlier. From her chair she could hear someone turning a page too soon.

During the break, her friend came down the aisle.
